Why Cambodia
See the 8th Wonder of the World: the Temples of Angkor Wat
Present-day Cambodia is a peaceful and welcoming country that has retained the style of its former French colony heritage and mixed it with indigenous cultural charm to completely redevelop itself and regain its proud title as “The Pearl of Asia”.
The past decade has seen a flourishing tourist industry with visitors per year enjoying a full range of cultural and luxury travel experiences. Golf, while relatively new, has been proving to be an increasingly important part of tourism in Cambodia.
Siem Reap is the main golf destination in Cambodia. Siem Reap is a small former French colonial town that has been visited by foreigners mainly to see the 1,000 year old cradle of Khmer civilization and the Temples of Angkor Wat. There are 3 international standard 18-hole courses each with their own variety and challenges for everyone from amateurs to professionals. Of these, Angkor Golf Resort leads the pack in terms of world-class quality and service. In addition, with the temples of Angkor Wat nearby, Siem Reap is one of the world’s best undiscovered golf destinations.
Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, boasts 4 golf courses. Although the main attraction is sightseeing, shopping, and enjoying the many colonial-style hotels, boutiques, and boulevards, golf is an ever-increasing reason to visit the Cambodian capital with Garden City Golf Club being the main draw.

Sihanoukville or Preah Sihanouk is a province in southwestern Cambodia on the Gulf of Thailand. The name of the province is to honor the late King Norodom Sihanouk, who made great contributions to the construction and development of the province. The capital of Sihanoukville province is the city of Sihanoukville. This city is home to the only deep-water port in Cambodia, with beaches attracting tourists. Sihanoukville province is famous for Koh Rong island, often referred to as "paradise island" by tourists. This island boasts pristine white sand, warm crystal clear waters and a tropical climate. In recent years, the island has become home to a large number of beautiful guesthouses and bungalows.

DOS & DON'T
Do’s in Cambodia
Cambodian people greet each other by saying “Chum Reap Suor”, accompanied by a gesture of pressing their palms together in front of their face and slightly bowing forward, which is called ‘sampeah’. Your Cambodian hosts will be happily surprised to see you using the ‘sampeah’ to greet them.
Shaking hands is now more and more acceptable, usually with men, and after a ‘sampeah’. When offering a gift to a Cambodian person, especially the elderly, it is the convention to present it with both hands.
Before entering a sacred place, such as a Buddhist pagoda or the Royal Palace, please remember to take off your shoes and your hat. Also please remember to be dressed in a clean and modest manner. Especially, women should wear a t-shirt or a blouse with short or long sleeves and a skirt or pants at least at knee-length.
When entering someone’s home, please remember to leave your shoes at the entrance. Although your Cambodian hosts will often insist that you keep them for your comfort, they will always appreciate your consideration for their home.
Although Cambodian people enjoy having their pictures taken, do ask for permission first.
If you buy foods at a street cart or a stall in a market, please remember that the price is usually cheap. Please remember that Cambodia is still a developing country and the Cambodian people are just starting to be familiar with other cultures’ customs and expectations. So be patient when communicating and interacting with your Cambodian hosts.
Don’ts in Cambodia
In the Cambodian and Buddhist culture, the head is the most sacred part of the body. Please DO NOT touch or pat the head of people, even children.
Similarly, as the feet are the lowest parts of the body, DO NOT use your feet to point at someone or something, to get the attention of someone or to push an object to someone.
If you go to a pagoda and have to sit on the floor, DO NOT sit cross-legged or with your legs outstretched. Instead, sit slightly sided on your heels. If the position becomes uncomfortable, try to shift on your other side.Buddhist monks are deeply revered and respected. Women are not allowed to touch a monk’s robe or his body.
The Cambodian society is relatively conservative and public displays of affection, such as kisses and hugs, are considered inappropriate and offensive behaviors.
In public areas, on sacred grounds such as pagodas, and in public buildings, avoid shouting, as well as laughing and speaking excessively loudly.
As cultural customs are different in Cambodia, please DO NOT resent Cambodian habits, which may be considered rude in your country.

Riel notes come in 50, 100, 200, 500, 1000, 5000, 10,000, 50,000 and 100,000 denominations, but the distinctive red 500 Riel note is the most commonly used.

Money Changers Money changers offer a slightly better rate that the banks. They are plentiful and tend to cluster around the traditional markets and there is usually a section within the market dedicated to money changers and gold sellers.
When accepting US dollars in change, inspect the bills carefully. Marred riel is acceptable tender, but the tiniest tear in a large US note, especially a $20, $50 or $100 note, renders it all but useless in Cambodia. Banks, moneychangers and other businesses will not accept it.

The festival takes place in front of the Royal Palace of Cambodia on the 15th day of the 11th lunar month on the full moon day of the rainy season. For three days Phnom Penh citizens, foreign tourists and peasants from various provinces gather in the capital to celebrate the festival at night and day.
The festival shows the characteristics of national communication, talent, agility, perseverance, art, happiness, love of peace, community solidarity, national pride. and above all patriotism as well as the sense of defending the country, defending the territory, protecting the nation.
The festival is both a competition and a festival to thank the Buddha for a bountiful harvest and pray for prosperity. It is an opportunity to review the indivisible strength of the naval forces of the ancient Khmer Empire and introduce the diversity of waterway transport of the Khmer people.

October is the month when Cambodian people celebrate the festival of Phchum Ben. Together with Khmer New Year in April, Phchum Ben is the most important festival in the Khmer religious calendar. Cambodians have faithfully observed the festival every year for as long as anyone can remember. The festival takes place in three days.
Cambodian people try not to miss a visit to the pagoda to dedicate food and offerings to the dead. The festival's final day is the actual day of Phchum Ben, when people traditionally meet together at the pagoda.
By doing this, Cambodians show respect for their ancestors. Everyone goes to the pagoda every year to honor this tradition.

Preah Neang Kol is one of the meaningful festivals of the Khmer people. The traditional festival is held by the King of Cambodia. It takes place at the beginning of the rainy season, usually on May 6 every year, according to the ancient Khmer calendar. And the festival is also held near the Royal Palace of Cambodia.
At the beginning of the ceremony the monks will pray and bless the people, and also bless the royal family and the leaders of the country. Next to the main part of the ceremony, people in the Cambodian royal family, possibly the King and Queen, will control cows and plow three times in a symbolic field. These cows will be led to 7 golden trays used to store some types of seeds such as rice, corn, sesame seeds, beans, grass, and water and wine. And everyone will pay attention to what tray they will come to eat. Cambodians believe that if the cows choose to eat the seeds, it is a sign that the Khmer people's harvest in the coming year will be good. But if cows choose other trays such as: water, wine, it is a sign for a year of bad weather.

Bom Chaul Chnam is the biggest festival in Cambodia. The traditional festival is annually held on April 13th to April 15th to celebrate the end of the traditional harvest season. In these days Cambodian people happily splash water into each other with the hope that a successful harvest is coming next year . The festival is also held in Laos, Thailand, Myanmar. After the religious ceremonies in the temple, people will go down all the streets to splash water into each other.
Traditional Apsara dance is one of the main activities in the festival. You will enjoy the performance of traditional Apsara dance by Cambodian artists as well as understand more about the physical and spiritual life of Cambodian people.
